RI-GAP

Let's Make an Appointment

In the Spring of 2010 as the election year began to heat up, the Hunt Alternatives Fund in Massachusetts approached us with an idea of how to engage more women in policy making: collect resumes from interested, qualified women, who would like to serve on boards and commissions or hold high-level positions in state government and deliver the resumes to the newly elected governor.

We developed a multi-partisan steering committee including women from all political parties who encouraged their friends, colleagues, and other women to apply.  On August 26th, 2010 (Equality Day), RI-GAP was officially launched with a special performance by the RI Raging Grannies singing the Women's Anthem Love & Justice.

In the Fall of 2010, all of the candidates for governor agreed to participate in RI-GAP and signed a pledge promising to double the number of women in government appointed cabinet level positions, boards and commissions.  At the time women made up just 15 percent of Governor Appointed positions in Rhode Island; today 30 percent of the administration's appointments are women and we are closer to our goal.

Your chance to Act and help close the political gender gap

Complete the application, upload a resume, and identify the positions that pique your interest. All resumes received will be forwarded to the governor for consideration.

The RI-GAP committee is led by a multi-partisan steering committee chaired by Susan Farmer, Sue Stenhouse, and Myrth York and includes Kerrie Bennett, Susan Colantuono, Maria DeCarvalho, Maureen Moakley, Adelita Orefice, Lisa Pelosi, Lila Sapinsley, Deborah Smith, Anne Szostak, Linda Ward, and Jennifer Wood.
