The GAP Narrows - The Rhode Island Government Appointments Project that is!

A year and a half ago, the Women's Fund of Rhode Island posed a challenge to all six Rhode Island gubernatorial candidates: that in order to move toward political parity each would promise that should he become Governor, 50 percent of all governor-appointed cabinet level positions, boards and commissions would be made up of women by 2014.

Governor Chafee took the post and the challenge.  And so, what was once 15 percent of those positions has moved closer to meeting that promise - today 30 percent of the administration's appointments are women and we are closer to our goal.

But we're not there yet...and continue to commit to the increase of women's political representation through both local and national partnerships.

Thanks to your investment in the Fund, our work through RI-GAP has contributed to the acknowledgment of our state as a leader in the fight for gender equality.  Sarah Beron
